Ferris State’s PTM program celebrates 25 Years
Big Rapids, Michigan is the birthplace of the first four-year Professional Tennis Management program in the country and it celebrated 25 years as the premier PTM program the country on April 14 - 15, 2011.
During this weekend the PTM program played host to some fantastic presentations by an all-star slate of some of the top speakers in the country, including Jorge Capestany and A.J. Pant, both USPTA/PTR Master Professional, who gave on-court presentations, “Best Drills from across the World,” and “Play Better to Teach Better.” Jill Fonte, Principle in Business Visions Group, spoke on the importance of professionalism entitled ”Putting Your Best Foot Forward” and Mike Woody, Director of Midland Community Tennis Center presented how to create “Successful Programming For Great Results.” The Ferris PTM program founder and current USTA Managing Director of Youth Tennis, Scott Schultz, discussed the growth and current state of 10 and Under Tennis. The keynote speaker for the weekend was former #4 player in the world, Todd Martin, who gave an on-court presentation in simple singles, emphasizing patterns and shot selection for high performance tennis.
The event culminated with a banquet honoring the “25 Years of Excellence” as the premier PTM program in the country and a presentation of awards and scholarships to recognize the achievements of the top PTM student performers of the year.
Ferris State University’s Professional Tennis Management program offers a four year Bachelor of Science degree in Professional Tennis Management with a choice of a Marketing or Resort Management concentration. Ferris’s program was the first four year program of its kind in the nation, boasts a 100% job placement rate for their graduates, and continues to be the industry model for like programs across the country.
