Campbell's Championships news, Saturday
*NEWPORT, R.I. — In semi-final action at the Campbell’s Hall of Fame Tennis Championships No. 4 seed Mardy Fish defeated qualifier Richard Bloomfield 7-6(5), 6-4, to advance to his first final at Newport. In the second match of the day, Belgian Olivier Rochus defeated Brian Dabul, 6-3, 6-2.
On Sunday, Fish and Rochus will face-off in the finals, both appearing in their first Newport title match and vying for their first ATP World Tour grass court title. Fish is trying to earn his fourth career ATP World Tour title and Rochus his third. Fish is 3-11 in his career in singles finals (0-3 on grass) while Rochus is 2-5 in ATP World Tour finals. The 28-year-old Fish enters with a 22-11 match record this season and he’s appearing in his second ATP World Tour final in 2010. He was a runner-up at the Queen’s Club in London last month (l. to Querrey). Rochus, was a semi-finalist at Newport last year. He has not dropped a set en route to the final.
Tournament play will be preceded by the Hall of Fame Classic Exhibition match at 10:00 a.m. The match will feature Mark Woodforde, Owen Davidson, Gigi Fernandez and Natasha Zvereva, who were all inducted to the International Tennis Hall of Fame today.
