Andy Murray Rocks at Flushing Meadows
Austria — HEAD player Andy Murray reached his first career Grand Slam final after a stunning match against World No. 1 Rafael Nadal at the US Open. On Monday’s final Murray ultimately lost to the former World No. 1 Roger Federer.
“It was tough match against a tough competitor” said Murray. “The fact that I was able to make it to my first career Grand Slam final, beating Nadal along the way, makes this experience even more memorable. I have played hard throughout this entire tournament but, unfortunately, wasn’t able to pull out a victory.”
On his way to the finals, Murray defeated World No. 1 Rafael Nadal 6-2, 7-6(5), 4-6, 6-4 to earn his first ever victory against his opponent. Murray also earned victories against Juan Martin Del Porto and fellow HEAD player Stanislas Wawrinka in the fourth round. Murray reached his career high in the South African Airways ATP ranking and climbed up from 6 to 4 due to his great success at the US Open.
“I have played with HEAD racquets since I was 12 or 13 and the Radical has always been my weapon of choice,“ said Murray, who plays with a MicroGEL Radical MP. “The MicroGEL Radical MP delivers a great power level but also has outstanding control. It is a great all-around racquet that fits perfectly to my game.”
In addition to Murray’s Grand Slam success, other HEAD young guns enjoyed success at the US Open. Among others Gael Monfils, who plays with a MicroGEL Prestige Mid, reached the round of 16 while fellow HEAD player Marin Cilic, who plays with a MicroGEL Radical MP, advanced to the third round where he was finally defeated by world No. 3 Novak Djokovic in four hard-fought sets.
