HEAD Pros Enjoy Success at Recent Tournaments
KENNELBACH, AUSTRIA — HEAD players enjoyed success last week at tournaments around the world.
Second-seeded HEAD Player Gilles Simon captured his first U.S. title at the Indianapolis Tennis Championships with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over defending champion Dmitry Tursunov, becoming the first French player to win the Indianapolis title in tournament history.
“Today was my best match. I didn’t have many unforced errors, I had a good serve,” said Simon, who plays with the MicroGEL Prestige MP. “That was the match I wanted to play. I was very close to playing my best tennis.”
On his way to the final round, Simon also defeated No. 5 seed Tommy Hass and No. 4 seed Sam Querrey. The victory marks Simon’s second ATP title of the season.
At the Austrian Open in Kitzbuehel HEAD player Victor Hanescu earned his first doubles title along with partner James Cerretani with a 6-3, 7-5 win against Lukas Arnold Ker and Olivier Rochus. Hanescu also advanced to the semifinal round of the singles tournament where he lost against eventual winner Del Potro.
“I’ve played two unbelievable weeks,” said Hanescu. “Of course I’m very excited about my first title in doubles, it’s a great feeling.”
French HEAD Player Marc Giquel reached the semifinal round of the Dutch Tennis Open in Amersfoort with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Russian Teimuraz Gabashvili. Giquel, who plays with the MicroGEL Prestige MP, eventually lost against Steve Darcis 6-7, 6-3, 5-7.
