USTA Announces Recreational Coach Workshop Trainer of the Year
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — The USTA today announced that Mike Carter from Austin, Texas has been selected as the 2007 Recreational Coach Workshop (RCW) Trainer of the Year. This award honors an RCW trainer who went above and beyond to provide an ideal experience for workshop attendees.
Carter is a USPTA and PTR certified teaching professional and the Director of Community Development for the USTA Texas Section. He is also one of eight RCW Master Trainers and has been involved with the RCW program for six years. Mike’s valuable feedback and inspiring attitude has contributed greatly to those who attend the workshops along with the RCW programs.
“Mike is an example of the level of commitment and involvement that we like from our trainers,” said Kirk Anderson, Director, Recreational Coaches Programs, USTA. “He brings a lot of enthusiasm to all those that he teaches whether it be at these workshops or teaching kids the sport of tennis. He truly is a great advocate to growing the game of tennis.”
As a result of being selected as the 2007 Recreational Coach Workshop Trainer of the Year, Carter will receive an all expenses-paid trip to the next USTA Tennis Teacher’s Conference in New York City in late August 2008, just prior to the US Open, where he will be formally honored.
Recreational Coach Workshops (RCWs) are interactive, on-court training programs designed for tennis teachers and coaches working with players at the recreational level. In 2007, 198 workshops were held nationwide with a total of 6,036 in attendance. Each workshop is six hours in length and conducted by a certified tennis professional specifically trained for the RCW Program. The goal of the program is to help all teachers, coaches, and those interested in learning how to become a recreational coach, with instruction, fresh and innovative ideas and easy-to-follow resources.
