Federer, Bryans Win Multiple ATP Awards

Miami, Florida — Roger Federer and Bob and Mike Bryan are the big winners in the 2007 ATP Awards, which were announced today in Miami on the eve of the Sony Ericsson Open.

For the fourth consecutive year, Federer won both the Player of the Year Award and Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award Presented by Stanford. Additionally, fans gave Federer the ATPtennis.com Fans’ Favorite Award Presented by RICOH for the fifth consecutive year.

“I am very happy to receive three more ATP awards for 2007,” Federer said. “The Sportmanship Award is voted by my fellow players and it is a great recognition for me. It is equally important to be voted by the fans as their favorite player. 2007 was a fantastic year for me, finishing No. 1 in the South African Airways ATP Rankings for the fourth consecutive time and continuing to receive the support of the players and fans worldwide.”

The Bryan brothers, who last year finished as the No. 1 doubles team for the fourth time in five years, won the Doubles Team of the Year Award Presented by Stanford for the third consecutive year. The Bryans also were voted ATPtennis.com Fans’ Favorite for the third consecutive year.

Mike Bryan said: “We really enjoyed playing so well last season, winning a personal-best 11 titles and capping it off with a Davis Cup victory. It was a very special year. Being voted fan favorite is also very important to us. Wherever we go the fans support us and make us feel really great.”

Other winners include defending Sony Ericsson Open champion Novak Djokovic of Serbia, the first player to clinch Most Improved Player of the Year honors in back-to-back years; Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, named Newcomer of the Year for his Ranking climb from No. 212 to a year-end finish of No. 43 with consistent results in ATP and Challenger level play; and Russian Igor Andreev, Comeback Player of the Year after returning from a left knee injury in 2006 to finish in the Top 50 for the third time in four years.

Ivan Ljubicic was named Arthur Ashe Humanitarian of the Year in recognition of his support of individual, smaller charities in his native Croatia and his sponsorship of the Monaco Special Olympics, donating his entire Davis Cup prize money to those charities as well as playing exhibitions to raise money. He said: “I have been fortunate in my life getting help and support when I needed. It is my duty now to give back. I have done it in a low key way but it is an honor to be recognized for my efforts. My message is that each one of us can make a difference.”
