Team HEAD’s Ruiz and Huczek Win USA Racquetball National Doubles Titles
Tempe, Ariz. -– Aimee Ruiz and Jack Huczek separately captured National Titles on Sunday at the 2008 USA Racquetball National Doubles Championships at the Arizona State University Recreation Center. Both Ruiz and Huczek are members of HEAD’s Pro Staff and with their respective wins have earned one year appointments to the USA Racquetball National Adult Team. That team will represent the U.S. in the 2008 International Racquetball Federation’s (IRF) World Championships in Ireland this August.
Ruiz (Stirling, N.J.) and her partner won the 2008 Women’s Doubles National Championship over their opponents 15-11, 15-6. In addition to representing the U.S. in Ireland, Ruiz and her partner will compete in the Pan American Championships next month in San Jose, Costa Rica.
The win for Ruiz is her fourth consecutive Women’s Doubles National Championship. Also during the weekend in Arizona, Ruiz won the Mixed Doubles National Championship, her sixth Mixed Doubles National Championship of her career.
In the Men’s National Championship match, Jack Huczek (Rochester, Mich.) and his partner defeated fellow HEAD Pro Staff member Jason Thoerner (Pekin, Ill.) and his partner 15-6, 15-14. For Huczek the win adds to the 25 year old’s impressive list of career accomplishments.
Jack Huczek ended his junior racquetball career in record setting fashion by becoming the only player in history to win every age division — twice. From there he went on to win two USAR National Singles Championships, three World Racquetball Championships and gold medals at the Pan American Games in 2003 and 2005.
Huczek is currently the top ranked player on the International Racquetball Tour — the men’s professional racquetball circuit — and that is a spot he has not relinquished since joining the HEAD team in 2006. Already this season on the IRT, Huczek has won three tournaments (Toronto, Kentucky & New York) and made the finals in three other tournaments.
