ESPN Deportes Begins Exclusive Telecasts of the Mexican Tennis Open

ESPN Deportes will offer exclusive coverage of the 15th edition of the Mexican Tennis Open tournament. Beginning February 25, viewers will have access to 64 of the best international players as they compete in the last of four clay tournaments held in Latin America.

Live coverage on ESPN Deportes will be offered daily from the Princess Hotel in Acapulco, Mexico leading up to the final on March 1. The two teams of commentators and analysts onsite include Eduardo Varela, Luis Alfredo Alvarez, Leo La Valle and Javier Frana. Mexican Tennis Open programming will generally consist of two shows each day: live matches at 4 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. ET., and will continue through the women’s and men’s finals Saturday, March 1 at 7:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. ET respectively. In addition to up-to-date news, features and analysis of the tournament, ESPNdeportes.com will enhance its coverage of the event with daily video reports from Martha Guerra and a daily blog penned by Juani Ceballos.

Held in the glamorous coastal city of Acapulco, the Mexican Tennis Open is the most important tennis tournament in Latin America. Played on clay courts, it attracts top-class players from around the world and is part of the International Gold Series ATP and Tier III of the WTA. Winners in this tournament will go to compete in the US Open in New York in August. The six-day event will pair off 32 men and 32 women who will play each other in their respective groups. The first players to win two sets move on to the next round. There are a total of six rounds including the semifinal and final. Past winners include Juan Ignacio Chela of Argentina, winner of the 2006 and 2007 men’s division and Emile Loit of France, winner of the 2007 women’s division.
