One Standout Earns USPTA Master Professional Distinction for 2007

Rosemary DeHoog recently earned recognition as Master Professional in the United States Professional Tennis Association, the highest professional rating within the tennis profession. DeHoog, who has been a member of the USPTA for 34 years, is the head tennis professional at Drumlins Tennis Club in Syracuse, N.Y.

Only about 1 percent of USPTA’s 14,500 members worldwide have achieved the Master Professional designation. DeHoog was honored Thursday, September 20, during the USPTA’s annual awards breakfast at the USPTA World Conference on Tennis at the Saddlebrook Resort in Wesley Chapel, Fla.

Members must hold USPTA’s highest certification rating (Professional 1) for more than 10 years before becoming eligible for the Master Professional designation. Then, each must fulfill a broad spectrum of requirements, including making significant achievements in areas such as tennis teaching and coaching, business, education and volunteer work.

“Becoming a Master Professional requires meeting a variety of personal and professional challenges,” said USPTA CEO Tim Heckler. “Those who accomplish it acquire a set of skills that can set them apart in tennis operations and programming.”

Rosemary is the head tennis professional at the Drumlins Tennis Club in Syracuse, N.Y. She has 34 years of experience as a tennis-teaching professional and has demonstrated the ability to produce tennis champions at the scholastic and state level. She is a USPTA Professional 1 and has served on the USPTA Eastern Division Board as president, national chairperson of the women’s committee and national tester. In addition, DeHoog has been involved in the following publications: “A History of the Women’s Division of the USPTA,” and “The Tennis Serve: A Film Analysis.” She has been a speaker at several USPTA Eastern and World Conferences. Some of her previous honors have included USPTA Pro of the Year and USPTA Major Contributor.
