Tomas Berdych Wins Gerry Weber Open
HALLE, GERMANY — Tomas Berdych won the Gerry Weber Open on Sunday, beating Marcos Baghdatis 7-5, 6-4 at this Wimbledon grass court warm-up.
Playing with the Dunlop Aerogel 2HUNDRED, the 21 year old Czech won 35 of 37 first-serve points in the finals for his first title of the year and third championship of his young career.
Berdych, who didn’t lose a set all week, played strongly in defeating last year’s Australian Open finalist. The win again demonstrated his consistent strong play on grass, having also reached the Gerry Weber final last year only to lose to Roger Federer.
“Dunlop congratulates Tomas on this great win, and we’re happy to see how very well he’s playing with his Aerogel racquet.” said Kai Nitsche, Dunlop’s General Manager of Racquet Sports. “His performance both this year and last in this top-tier grass tournament has been outstanding. We wish him the best of luck at Wimbledon.”
With this championship, Berdych moved to number 11 in the ATP rankings. The Dunlop Tennis Tour Team now boasts 4 male players in the ATP top 11 — Tommy Robredo (7th) James Blake (9th), Tommy Haas (10th), and Tomas Berdych (11th) — all of them playing with the extraordinary technology of the Dunlop Aerogel racquet.
