Stronger clamp cleaner

Cleaning clamps and other stringing machine parts with isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol may promote rusting because it contains a percentage of water to begin with, and it’s hygroscopic so it absorbs moisture from the air. When the alcohol evaporates, the water remains and rusting may occur. I prefer to use acetone or acetone-based nail enamel remover. It is a much stronger solvent, and really does the job. Just make certain not to get it on any painted or plastic surfaces.

Editor’s note: Acetone fumes should not be inhaled, as they can cause liver damage. Never consume acetone nor get it in your eyes. It’s also a good idea to keep it from your skin.
