Don't Forget to Reset

Before tying off the last main, some stringers add a few pounds to the reference tension to mitigate the normal loss of tension when tying off. The only problem is, if you forget to go back and reset the tension to its original setting, you may install each of the cross strings at the higher tension, too. To avoid this, after pulling tension on that last main — but before you tie off — reset your reference tension. This practice could save you the time and expense of having to restring a newly strung racquet.

5 sets of Ashaway Crossfire 17 to:

Mike Trinchitella, Mahopac, NY

Editor’s note: This practice is not necessary on machines with “push button” knot tension, which increase tension only for one pull.
