Cleaning textured clamp faces

Q: I have been cleaning the teeth on my machine’s string clamps fairly regularly, using alcohol and a toothbrush, but the last time I did it I looked closely and saw that there was some string residue still embedded in the texture of my diamond-coated clamp teeth, and it is very difficult to remove. At this point, I am completely disassembling the clamps to clean them as best as I can. Is there a better way?

A: There are a couple of options you can try. First, Gamma offers a product called Cleaning Stones, which are specially designed to clean diamond-coated clamp teeth such as yours. Second, Babolat recommends using a wire-bristle brush to clean the teeth on the titanium-oxide-dusted clamps that come on its machines. This method should work with other textured clamp teeth, although we recommend you buy brass-bristle brushes, rather than those with steel bristles.
