Vibration dampeners

Q: Could you please give me a ruling on placement of anti-vibrators? My understanding is that a player may place an anti-vibrating device under the lowest horizontal, over the highest horizontal, left of the farthest left vertical, and right of the farthest right horizontal. I’ve been told by a few players that the ruling stipulates that they be confined to lower than the lowest horizontal only.

A: You are correct. According to the official Rules of Tennis, Section 4 (The Racket): “Case 3. Can vibration dampening devices be placed on the strings of a racket and if so, where can they be placed? Decision. Yes; but such devices may be placed only outside the pattern of crossed strings.”
