Shallow bumperguards
If you or any of your customers play with the Head i.radical OS, you know that the groove between the bumperguard and the grommet strip is shallow, allowing the string to come into direct contact with the court very often. I decided to find a way to remedy the situation. I tried tape, but it looked horrible, and often did not stick to the frame. Then I hit upon the idea of trying to keep as much string away from the “problem areas” as possible. Rather than tying the starting knot for the crosses at 6H, I widened the grommet at 8H and anchored the crosses there. This way, I don’t have two strings running along the shallowest part of the bumper guard, where most of the contact and wear occur. It also gives the outside of the frame a cleaner look, and so far this technique has helped prevent premature string breakage at the top of the head.
