Crack Repair
I have come up with a method of salvaging a cracked racquet.
- Scrape all paint from around the cracked area.
- Mix a batch of 10-minute golf epoxy adequate to cover the area cleared of paint. (Regular epoxy is brittle and cracks when a shear pressure is applied.) It must be worked into the crack before it starts to set up and become sticky.
- If necessary, use a piece of scrap string to reinforce the area (I use Prince Polygut). Install at right angle to the crack.
- Clamp the racquet in a way that will squeeze the crack closed, if necessary.
- Allow the epoxy to cure overnight.
- Apply a second coat if you want to hide the piece of scrap string and increase repair strength.
It’s a lot of work, but I love doing the impossible.
