Ektelon Attitude tension

Q: I have a racquetball customer who uses the Ektelon More Performance Attitude. According to the USRSA, the tension range in this frame is 26 to 34 pounds. However, he says he heard from someone at Ektelon that this frame should be strung at 40 pounds for the mains, and 44 pounds for the top five crosses. Have you ever heard of this?

A: Sort of. When the Power Ring frames first became available, some of the bigger hitters found that the top crosses would loosen up and saw through the mains, resulting in premature breakage. Ektelon sent advisory notices to their dealers of an alternate tension recommendation for players breaking strings on Power Ring frames (which includes the Attitude). For these players, Ektelon recommends stringing the mains at 34 pounds, the top three crosses at 40 pounds, and the remainder of the crosses at 34 pounds.
